Overwatch 2 Has a Chat Bug That Could Be Buying Skins at Random
Overwatch 2’s launch was disastrous, to say the least. Players had to wait in long and arduous queues and were plagued with constant disconnection problems. Sadly, the gaming community found yet another bug. This time, however, it looks like the players’ real life money may be put at risk.
Since Overwatch 2 has now been fit for the new free-to-play model, players can only get skins by buying through the shop or getting the battle pass. However, many of them discovered that they may be buying skins at random by simply typing in the in-game chat. What makes this even worse is that this issue has reportedly been around since May.
An Overwatch 2 player shared on social media that some keystrokes are being registered by the game and are navigating the menu all by itself.
“On the day that Overwatch 2 launched, I was chatting with some friends while browsing the hero gallery when the game unexpectedly began unlocking Junker Queen’s Plutonium skin,” the player wrote. “I was typing a message in the chat and before I could react and cancel the purchase it already went through and bought the skin for me.”
Apparently, it only takes “two presses of the spacebar” to unlock a skin. “Something that can happen in a split second when you are pressing it dozens of times per sentence,” the complainant added.
At the moment, there is very little actual proof of this. However, many players have now started to complain of the same issue. With that said, it would be in the gaming public’s interest to avoid using Overwatch 2’s chat feature for now.
According to the player, Blizzard has not resolved the issue for him just yet. Plus, he also claims that devs still have not issued him a refund.
