Overwatch 2 Players Have to Finish 100 Matches to Unlock All Heroes
Overwatch 2 devs are introducing a new process that they call First Time User Experience or FTUE. Apparently, Blizzard decided that they are going to gate some content and features as part of this new system.
Because of this new First Time User Experience, Overwatch 2 players who are new to the series will have to play 100 matches in order to unlock all of the game’s original heroes. Plus, devs also locked in-game chat and and the game’s competitive mode until they have met certain requirements.
Overwatch 2 devs made FTUE to gradually ease new players into the game. It has come to light that they came to this decision following consistent feedback from the gaming community. Apparently, a lot of them felt overwhelmed by the game’s many modes and characters.
New players can only access the competitive modes after they have won 50 Quick Play matches. “This focused experience eases new players into the world of Overwatch by teaching them about different modes, rules, and other high level aspects of the game in an approachable way,” devs said.
“Most FTUE restrictions are lifted while in a group so new players can team up with their friends at any time to play almost any game modes,” they continued. “Competitive is the exception to this rue because new players must complete a specific challenge to access this game mode.”
Blizzard also announced recently that all Overwatch 2 players will have to connect their phone numbers to their Battle.net account as an “additional layer of security.” According to devs, it is “an industry-proven solution in combating both cheating and disruptive behavior.” They implemented this new feature to protect everyone’s gaming experience “from bad actors.”
Overwatch 2 is launching in Early Access on October 4th. It is worth noting, however, that any changes brought on by the FTUE will only impact accounts created on or after this date.
