The Witcher 3 New-Gen Release Is Happening As Scheduled
The updated version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for new-gen consoles and PC is still on track for its scheduled release. CD Projekt confirmed to the gaming public that it is still due to launch later this year.
President and Joint CEO Adam Kicinski announced during the studio’s first half earnings call that Witcher 3’s new-gen release is “on track” to come out during the fourth quarter of 2022. Those who closely followed news about the game are well aware of its many delays. Devs originally scheduled it for last year. Due to certain circumstances, they had to push it for the second year of 2022.
Just this April, Witcher 3 devs decide to delay it even further to its current schedule. They even brought development in-house so they could complete the project. Saber Interactive developed the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. They also handled the game’s Nintendo Switch port.
The multiple delays fueled speculations that Witcher 3 was in development hell. However, devs reassured the gaming community that they were merely “evaluating the scope of work to be done.” “Thus, have to postpone Q2 release until further notice,” devs said. “We will update you as soon as we can.”
The new-gen version will include some DLC items that took inspiration from the popular TV series. The Witcher 3 new-gen edition will release as a standalone purchase for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Plus, it is also going to be a free update for players who already have the game on last-gen consoles.
Furthermore, devs also confirmed to the Witcher 3 community in March that the next game is going to kick off “a new saga” for the franchise.
