Ubisoft Reveals a Pre-Release Deep-Dive for Upcoming Skull and Bones

Skull and Bones Devlog Reveals Key Details About the Game

Skull and Bones, Ubisoft’s upcoming pirate-themed adventure, has been getting more than a few pre-release leaks. From launch information to game footage, it seems like Ubisoft’s ship has a couple holes – but as of today, they’re holes Ubisoft aims to patch. Not by stopping the leaks entirely, but by getting ahead of the game. Ubisoft has taken steps to release a ton of information themselves.

This information comes to us from a freshly-dropped devlog about Skull and Bones, focusing on loadouts and player tools. While it doesn’t act as a comprehensive guidebook to everything the game has to offer, it does shed a lot of light onto what the game will ask of the player, and the tools with which the player will meet those goals. You can read it yourself here – highly recommended, it goes into more detail than can be fit into a single article on this site.

If you just want a highlight reel, we’ll offer a few key tidbits.

When choosing a ship, there are two factors to keep in mind: ship role, and ship size. Some ships are great for transport, for navigation, or for combat – but not all at once. Smaller ships are more nimble and can weave through rivers and lakes, but bigger ships allow for that delicious weapon-mounting real estate.

On the note of weapons, you can pick from cannons, mortars, bombards, ballistae, rockets, torpedoes, and more. Each weapon type has a variety of sub-types that can perform better or worse in a given situation.

On a more fun end, you can also load you ship up with furniture. On top of the inherent cosmetic upsides, you’ll also find some synergies between furniture and ship roles – be it in shorter combat encounters or long-quest survival capabilities.
