Shujinkou Manga Reader Is Completely Free
Rice Games has officially launched the Shujinkou Manga Reader on PlayStation 5 today, offering fans a fresh way to explore its growing JRPG universe. The free app is now available worldwide, excluding China, and includes localized versions in Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
One of the standout aspects of this release is its collaboration with Matsushita Asuto, a Game Planner known for his work on Persona 5. Working under the pen name “Asuma,” he helped adapt director Julian Rice’s original scenario into a manga format that feels both accessible and engaging. Art management was handled alongside illustrator Yazawa Tatsuaki, ensuring a polished presentation.
The new one-shot manga dives into the Genya Arc, highlighting key elements like exploration, combat, and character bonding. It also reflects a broader shift for Shujinkou, which is evolving beyond its identity as a language-learning dungeon crawler into a more expansive JRPG world filled with memorable characters and layered storytelling.
Importantly, the Manga Reader is completely free, serving as an entry point for new audiences. Rice Games has also confirmed plans for a full manga adaptation of the Genya Arc, with future chapters set to roll out through updates to the app.
To celebrate the launch, the team is distributing over 500 physical copies of the manga at BitSummit 2026 in both Japanese and English.
Overall, the Shujinkou Manga Reader feels like a smart expansion of the franchise, blending storytelling and accessibility while setting the stage for bigger content updates ahead.
