This Hidden JRPG Gem Is Making Its Mac Debut
Rice Games Inc. has announced that its story-driven dungeon-crawling JRPG, Shujinkou, will officially launch on the Mac App Store on September 9, 2026. The release will also coincide with the game’s debut on the Epic Games Store and Apple’s online event taking place the same day.
Mac users can download and play the game for free, with the opening 5–10 hours of the adventure available at no cost. Players who want to continue can purchase permanent content unlocks through one-time payments.

The Mac release is particularly meaningful for Rice Games founder Julian Rice, who has used Macs since high school and still relies on them as his main development platform. He developed significant portions of Shujinkou on a 16-inch Intel i9 MacBook Pro, making a dedicated Mac release a long-term goal for the studio.
After more than six years of development, Shujinkou offers an 80+ hour campaign across 16 handcrafted labyrinths, alongside more than 200 quests and over 180 combat and exploration skills. The game also features an optional Japanese language-learning system covering beginner to advanced levels.
Since launching on PC and consoles last year, Shujinkou has received over 20 major updates based on player and critic feedback. The game has also earned a 90 Metacritic score and an 89 OpenCritic average.
The Mac version will support both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, along with controllers, 70 Game Center achievements, 26 leaderboards, and one-time in-app content purchases. With the launch just around the corner, Shujinkou is ready to reach an entirely new audience.
