Is it a New Silent Hill Game or a New Layers of Fear Game?
News about a new Silent Hill in the works have been making their rounds online for quite some time now. The confirmation of Konami’s strategic partnership with Bloober Team has added weight to the rumors. According to the grapevine, the studio is now working on the horror franchise as well.
“Reach beneath the surface and uncover the source of your fears,” the Layers of Fear devs wrote on social media. This tease was accompanied by an image of a torn-up painting and wall. The way that the devs worded their statement has fueled speculations that it is going to be a Silent Hill prequel. However, many fans believe that devs are merely teasing a new installment to the Layers of Fear franchise. After all, the tease did come from Layers of Fear’s official social media account.
Still, many fans are looking for a definitive answer regarding the Silent Hill situation. Bloober team CEO Piotr Babieno has been quite coy regarding the studio’s potential involvement with the popular horror franchise. It would seem that he is biding his time until an official announcement can be made.
With that said, devs still have plenty of time for a potential reveal in the near future. They can choose to make the reveal at this year’s Summer Game Fest or at the Xbox and Bethesda Game Showcase. There is also a ton of video game industry events that are set to kick off within the next several days.
Fans have already caught a glimpse of an upcoming Silent Hill game. Leakers shared alleged screenshots and details of the project. Konami eventually instigated a DMCA takedown notice of the information. This course of action makes total sense from a legal standpoint. However, it does also seem to verify the contents of the leak.
