Introducing the Fremen
The most valuable resource in the universe is up for grabs. And Arrakis is turning into a battleground for it. Today Developer Shiro Games and Publisher Funcom have revealed their Sci-Fi RTS, Dune: Spice Wars, is arriving on Steam Early Access on April 26th. In addition to the Early Access announcement, Shiro Games is also introducing the fourth playable faction: The Fremen.
Dune: Spice Wars brings the universe of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi gem, Dune, to life with a mix of RTs and 4x grand strategy gameplay. Players take on the role of leading one of the four factions of Arrakis, a massive desert planet. However, leading a faction isn’t easy. Players will need to balance their military power, political influence, and resources in order to achieve victory. They will need to use the strengths and exploit the weaknesses of all factions. Choose your allegiance to either the Atreides, Harkonnen, Smugglers or, newly revealed, Fremen.
The Fremen faction is introducing yet another way of playing. In addition to the increased capacity to move across the vast desert the Fremen also have a lower chance of attracting sandworms. Furthermore, as a desert-dwelling faction, the Fremen are also able to ally with neutral settlements easier, expanding their political influence.
“With so many massive Dune fans in the studio, the excitement I see every day of working with this universe is very real, and we hope this comes across in the game,” Says Shiro Games CEO, Sebastien Vidal, in the press release.
Dune: Spice Wars is coming to Steam Early Access on April 26th. In addition to developing Dune: Spice Wars Funcom is currently developing a Dune open-world survival game.
