Overwatch 2 Director Admits That They’ve Dropped the Ball

Game Director Aaron Keller Updates on Overwatch 2 Status

Overwatch 2, has, sadly, seemed to be overlooked as of late. When the previous game director, Jeff Kaplan, left the Overwatch project, there was a lot of silence between updates. That is, other than the announcement of another delay for the sequel.

But now we’ve gotten a little update with the new Game Director, Aaron Keller. And it all starts with an apology to the community, basically stating that the entire team has let future players down.

I want to thank our players for your continued support, we recognize we haven’t communicated well, haven’t kept you up to date, and honestly, we’ve let you down when it comes to delivering Overwatch content. We hear you and we’re committed to more continual updates on all things Overwatch 2. Thank you for your dedication, your passion, and your patience…the entire team can’t wait to get Overwatch 2 in your hands.”

Keller also explained that currently, the team is “decoupling” the PVP from the PVE system- which should deliver the 5V5 mode sooner. Moreover, testing for OverWatch 2 PVP will begin this week, according to Keller. This means Alpha testing will start then for Blizzard employees and key players.

Beta testing should be opening in April, with more to follow in the upcoming year. Keller was not the only one who was sorry about the development, or lack thereof. Blizzard’s president Mike Ybarra also offered an apology, via social media to the Overwatch community. “Thanks to our players for always guiding our path forward. We realize our content and communication have missed expectations. That changes going forward.

OverWatch 2 was originally announced in 2019. While there is still no official release date, (with promised delays for the upcoming year) the Overwatch 2 is set to come out on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
