It’s Smash Brothers Free, but Still Fight Worthy
While we knew for Evo 2022, there would be no Nintendo Smash Brothers, we did know there would be other games. But we did not know what games there would be to play and fight for competitors- until now.
It was revealed on Twitch that there would be nine games in the competition- and that five of these games are new to the Evo lineup. And the game lineup is, as follows: Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Guilty Gear Strive, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Tekken 7, The King of Fighters XV, Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and Skullgirls: 2nd Encore. All gaming tournaments will be taking place on the PlayStation 4, and they cite for future players to bring their own controllers.
While some may be feeling the space that’s been left by not having the Smash Bro Brawl, Evo seems to be looking forward to the times ahead, and the possibility that they may have them back in the competition- or at least, for the chance to root them on with a statement from before the lineup reveal: “Since 2007, we’ve seen historic Super Smash Bros. moments created at Evo’s events. We are saddened that Nintendo has chosen not to continue that legacy with us this year. In the future, we hope to once again celebrate the Super Smash Bros. community alongside them.”

The reason is given that Nintendo is not bringing in the Smash Bro into the competition- or rather why it has been withdrawn- is due to them forming their own championship late last year, with the help of Panda Global.
For those who wish to go to Evo, registration is now open. The event, as of this writing, will be taking place in person in Las Vegas, from August 5th to August 7th, 2022.
