Cyberpunk 2077 Is Getting a VR Compatibility Mod Later This Week

Cyberpunk 2077 VR Mod “Should Be Out By the End of This Week”

Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting a VR compatibility at an undisclosed date later this week. This mod is known as R.E.A.L. VR. It will be adding VR head tracking support to CD Projekt’s open world RPG.

The mod was actually originally scheduled to launch last month but has been delayed. It is worth noting, however, that it will not feature VR controller support. Instead, it will rely more on traditional control schemes.

The modders rolled out a preview of Cyberpunk 2077’s VR mod. The video shows off five minutes of VR-enhanced Cyberpunk gameplay. As seen in the trailer, players can explore the environment, demonstrate menu and map navigation, drive around Night City in both first- and third-person, as well as get into a gunfight.

According to modder Luke Ross the mod’s performance is “quite good for such a complex and modern game.” He got approximately 60fps while recording at 2700×2700 resolution, with 80 to 90fps in general play. However, it must be noted that the modder’s rig is relatively beefy with a Core i9-9900k and RTX 3090.

Ross also claimed that Cyberpunk 2077 VR seems to look best on low resolution. Apparently, bumping up the settings to higher resolution “actually makes for a hazier view in VR.” His claims are very intriguing considering that VR is oftentimes at its weakest when rendering at a distance.

The clarity and level of detail you can achieve in this way are simply astounding,” he said. “The views are just majestic.

Unfortunately, the Cyberpunk 2077 modder did not provide an exact release date for the VR mod. However, he did confirm that it “should be out by the end of this week.”

Ross was also the genius mind behind the VR support for Red Dead Redemption 2 and Mafia Trilogy.
