Halo Infinite Had the Biggest Launch in Franchise History With 20 Million Players
Halo Infinite just crossed a major milestone. Although the popular FPS launched only in December, it now has 20 million players.
“With over 20 million Spartans joining us so far, we are thrilled to announce that Halo Infinite is the biggest launch in Halo franchise history!” the devs wrote on social media. “Thank you everyone for joining us on the next step in this great journey.”
One major factor that may have contributed to Halo Infinite’s success is its ease of access. Its free-to-play multiplayer modes and day one introduction for Xbox Game Pass subscribers were very easily accessible. Journalists across the world also gave it a great 87 MetaCritic score across 96 outlets.
The current player number 20 million will most likely increase with Halo Infinite Season 2 on the way. As usual, the devs will drop new content through the battle pass. Plus, 343 Industries’ Jerry Hook already revealed that there will be “reduced pricing across the board.” Players can also earn credits that they can redeem for different items in the store.
The Halo community is expecting Season 2 to launch sometime this May. The campaign hinted on future content. With that said, it is safe to say that fans can see more single-player DLC in the future.
Microsoft’s quarterly earnings from October through December saw their gaming revenue come up to $5.44 billion. This is a new record not just for the holiday season, but for the company’s quarterly gaming sales in general. It is a $411 million increase in gaming revenue from that same period in the previous year when the Xbox Series consoles first came out. Due to COVID-19, everyone was on lockdown and gamers were playing even more games to pass the time.
