Not One but Three Tomb Raider Games Are Being Given for Free
The Tomb Raider Reboot Trilogy is the latest freebie on the Epic Games Store. The bundle is going to be available for download at no extra cost until January 6th. The titles featured in this trilogy are the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, the 2016 sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider, and the 2019 follow-up Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Although this is very good news for fans, it was not entirely a surprise. A few days ago, dataminers revealed that some Tomb Raider titles were going to be given fro free on December 30th. Epic Games confirmed any rumors when they showcased the trilogy as today’s freebie game on their digital store.
To access the bundle, players will have to download the Epic Games Store launcher on their PCs. After they create their account, they can start adding any free games to their library.
Although fans already witnessed Lara Croft in the big screen, the franchise actually first came out in the gaming world. The first game in the trilogy focuses more on survival with open-world exploration. It has an action-move story line that allows players to unlock certain upgrades for their skills and gear.
The second game showcases a solid foundation for RPG upgrades, open-world exploration, and third-person combat. Basically, it appears to be a bigger and better take on the first reboot’s formula. The 2016 sequel also has an interesting narrative since it shows Lara turning into a hero trying so hard to save the day amid her own personal demons.
The last title in the trilogy was a product of Eidos Montreal, and not Crystal Dynamics like the first two. Despite of having another studio make it, it followed the same formula established in its predecessors. It did not necessarily take the franchise into a bad direction. However, many fans complained that it seemed a bit clunky and felt old compared to the first two installments.
