Xbox’s “Prepare the Chickens” Tweet Somehow Gets Even Stranger

But Nobody Came.

Yesterday, we were introduced to something special. But like so many good things, it left this earth far too early – and we are worse off for it. The tweet, promising just a single day’s wait before the reveal of some mysterious thing, justified the time spent by proclaiming a need to “prepare the chickens.” Articles were written, fans speculated on what it could all mean, and Xbox doubled-down with a glorious sequel: “We’d call it our Fable Anniversary, but that name is already taken.”

Were we wrong? Was it presumptuous of us to assume that this would lead to something, anything at all? Clearly it was going somewhere, right? After all, they saw the reaction to the initial tweet, and played up the rumors of some new Fable product rather than dismissing them. Whoever the PR guy for that account was, they’re not there anymore. With the changing of the guard came a change in tone, and the tweet was deleted. Luckily, the internet is forever. This moment in time need not linger in the past, a screenshot tells us all we need to know:

A new tweet, taking the place of our kentucky-fried friend, simply states: “Sorry for any confusion! We don’t have any big game news tomorrow, or any info about @WeArePlayground‘s upcoming Fable game.” Well, that’s at least more definitive, if a bit disappointing. Really, the only question remaining is “if this was just ‘confusion’, what was your intended message?” Was there some other chicken-related announcement coming in soon? Everyone knows that Fable is the only game with chickens in it (there are no others, shut up), how could you expect people to think any different?

Either way, that whole tweet turned out to be a big pile of nothing. It was funny, sure, and the round of speculation was pretty cool to sift through, but it all feels so hollow after this. I’d say something stupid like “the real chicken was the friends we made along the way”, but come on this is kinda a sad ending to what could’ve been oh so glorious.
