PlayStation Plus Close to Hitting 50 Million Subscriber Milestone

Difficult to Say if It Will Get To 50 Million Point or Slide Right Down

Those who subscribe to PlayStation Plus get all sorts of perks to go with the service, including an array of new games to download and keep every month. Because of that, people have been drawn into the subscription service for both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5. And while the numbers have wobbled in the past as late as September of 2021, they’ve shot up again to the current number of 47.2 million active members on PlayStation Plus.

This hasn’t been the highest the numbers have been for PlayStation Plus. Prior to this, subscriptions during January through March of 2021 were at the 47.6 million subscriber mark, before going back down again. Still, getting to the 47 million mark is nothing to sneeze at, especially when Sony does also possess the PlayStation Now service. Let’s not forget too there is also the Xbox Game Pass to contend against, and Nintendo’s Switch Online subscription service, particularly with the reveal of Nintendo’s Online Expansion Pack. Still, with Sony dividing its possible services with the PlayStation Now and the PlayStation Plus, it’s difficult to say if combining the two services would help or hinder when it comes to the number of people buying the service. There are a number of factors that come into play when it comes to the possibility of getting to that pivotal 50 million mark.

On the one hand, there are going to be future exclusive titles to PlayStation coming out this winter, such as Call of Duty: Vanguard, and Battlefield 2042. Both require a PlayStation Plus in order to have the multiplayer online experience. On the other hand, there are outside factors that come into play, not just the release of competing console subscription packs and what they can offer to the consumer. Subscribers may cancel their subscription, not because of any dislike or dissatisfaction, but because they’re no longer forced to stay inside all the time. Still, winter is coming in the Northern Hemisphere, and that may affect subscriber choices. With the colder weather and great game choices, possible subscribers may decide to bundle up against the cold and pay.
