A Plague Tale: Innocence Will Be Free On The Epic Games Store

Rat Race

Following the announcement of a sequel at this year’s E3, A Plague Tale: Innocence is set to become available, for free, on the Epic Games Store next week. Like any Epic Games Store free titles, if you claim it during the free period it’ll be yours to keep – forever!

A Plague Tale: Innocence is an action-adventure stealth game from developers Asobo Interactive. First released way back in May 2019, the game earned critical and commercial success for its immersive storytelling and its grim, dark art style. It took home Outstanding Story-Rich Game at 2019’s Steam Awards, and was nominated for Best Narrative in the 2019 Game Awards.

A Plague Tale: Innocence

The game follows the story of Amicia and Hugo, young noble siblings in 12th-century France as they journey through a plague-torn country in an attempt to evade the Inquisition. Along the way they must face off against Inquisition soldiers, people infected by the plague, and the immense hordes of rats that flood the streets, bringing sickness and death with them.

One of the most interesting aspects of A Plague Tale: Innocence is its heavy focus on stealth and evading your enemies. While most stealth games would afford you the option to take on enemies head-to-head if you’re discovered, if Amicia is caught by an enemy they’ll kill her straight away. Giving a sense of urgency and tension to every encounter, this stealth system truly makes A Plague Tale: Innocence stand out from other stealth games released at the time, like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey or Hitman 2.

A Plague Tale: Innocence

At E3 2019, it was revealed that a sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence is currently in development by Asobo Studio, scheduled for release in 2022. So far we don’t know much about A Plague Tale: Requiem, but it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.

A Plague Tale: Innocence will be available for free on the Epic Games Store from August 5th until August 12th.
