THQ Nordic’s Brand New Studio is Working on a Brand New IP

Veterans From the Mafia Franchise, the ArmA: Armed Assault Franchise, Silent Hill: Downpour, Vigor, and the UFO Trilogy Unite

We’ve been talking about THQ Nordic a lot recently, and for good reason–they won’t stop incorporating/acquiring new studios or working on cool new stuff. We were already excited about the possible Destroy All Humans 2 remake and the confirmed Gothic remake. Now we also have something entirely new to obsess over and make up theories about, which, let’s be real, is a gaming journalist’s natural state. The newly formed Ashborne Games will specialize in growing the strategy RPG genre, beginning with a brand new historical SRPG IP that’s currently in production. Also, they’ll be helping out with Comanche, THQ Nordic’s modern helicopter shooter, while it’s in early access.

As of writing, Ashborne Games has 38 team members and has its eye on expanding further. By which we mean, they’re hiring right now, so if you’re interested in working in the games industry you can head right over to their website and apply. The studio is based out of Brno in the Czech Republic, but if there’s one thing 2020 has taught us all, it’s that most jobs can be worked remotely, especially the digital ones.

“Our focus and passion lie in strategy and RPG games. Our goal as a team is to create an authentic gaming experience with sophisticated systems that encourage repeated playthroughs. We believe that’s something that’s really missing on the market,” says Karel KaliÅ¡, Studio Game Director at Ashborne Games. That sounds excellent to us. Replayability is often a major weakness in the SRPG genre, so more replay value is never a bad thing. We’re looking forward to seeing what Ashborne plans to add to the table.
