Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s First Anniversary is on the Horizon

What Does Nintendo Have Planned to Mark the Occasion?

It’s hard to believe that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been out for almost a full year, but it’s true–the big day will be coming up on March 20th, less than a week away. An occasion like this definitely deserves a celebration, so what does Nintendo have planned? We really wish we could tell you. Unfortunately, if Nintendo has plans to make a big event out of it, they’re keeping their cards close to their chests. Or they just got distracted by Mario Day on March 10th, in which case we have to shake our heads at their priorities. At least we know there’s gonna be a bunch of fun stuff to do in March. Here’s a run-down.

Bamboo forests, spider crabs, tadpoles, and orchid mantises aside, it’s very unlikely that Nintendo would let this occasion pass unmarked. New Horizons is one of the most successful Switch games of all time, outselling basically everything except Mario Kart. Letting the first anniversary go by without even a token party would be a huge mistake. So, barring any sudden upsets or secret announcements, what can we expect from Nintendo when the big day rolls around?

First of all, you’ll probably be getting at least one DIY recipe with a birthday or anniversary theme. Tom Nook will probably start stocking cute anniversary outfits and furniture, maybe even cake or a nice banner to hang up in your home. In the best case scenario, there will be gifts and special interactions with the islanders, but we can’t be sure. Maybe Nintendo just put too much energy into Mario Day and decided to take New Horizon’s anniversary off. Or maybe they’re sitting on the best and biggest celebration ever, getting ready to unveil the fruit of all their hard work. We’ll have to wait and see.
