Blasphemous Gets Bloodstained in a Free Gothic Crossover

Experience Strife and Ruin Alongside Miriam and the Penitent One

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night returns in the form of a crossover with another game entirely, and it’s a match made in the pits of spooky video game hell. Blasphemous is described on Steam as “a brutal action-platformer with skilled hack’n slash combat set in the nightmare world of Cvstodia. Explore, upgrade your abilities, and perform savage executions on the hordes of enemies that stand between you and your quest to break eternal damnation.” That honestly sounds like the perfect setting to drop Bloodstained‘s beloved heroine Miriam into. Between the magical crystal slowly consuming her and her quest to rid the world of demons, she’ll feel right at home, so it’s awesome that Blasphemous: Strife & Ruin is bringing her in as an ally. Catch her fighting beside Blasphemous‘ protagonist, the Penitent One, on February 18th.

That’s not all the Strife & Ruin update has in store for Blasphemous players. When you’re done finding a way to help Miriam return home–by completing a series of platforming challenges and collecting shards in exchange for a special reward–you can tackle a ton of new additions, including:

  • Team-up with Miriam
  • Take on new challenge rooms
  • Conquer Boss Rush Mode
  • New Rosary Beads
  • Korean Language Support
  • New Render Modes

And if Blasphemous‘ lush pixel art is just a little too modern for you, take things old-school in the Demake Area. This hidden mode is concealed inside an arcade cabinet stashed in a secret location, and it promises to turn the game into a linear experience that pays homage to classic 8-bit platformers. The press release states that: “Core mechanics will change to suit the classic style as well, as The Penitent One strives to gather five golden skulls and defeat a new boss to reap the rewards. Continuing the retro theme, The Game Kitchen has also included several new render modes, emulating older TV effects that can be applied throughout the entire standard game.”

Sounds like a gothic good time!
