Here’s the Lowdown on Evil Dead: The Game

We may not have seen a Silent Hill reboot announced at The Game Awards, but we did get an announcement about another horror franchise. We already knew about Evil Dead: The Game all the way back in May last year, when Bruce Campbell confirmed that it was in the works, but The Game Awards’ Trailer was the first substantial look we got at the upcoming horror, and now we know more about the gameplay.

Work together as a team of four survivors, exploring, looting, crafting, managing your fear, and finding key artifacts to seal the breach between worlds. Or take control of the powerful Kandarian Demon to hunt Ash and his friends while possessing Deadites, the environment, and even the survivors themselves as you seek to swallow their souls.

Plenty of surprises await in this gore-filled battle against evil that captures the characters, horror, humor, and action from the franchise. Battle across memorable locations including the infamous cabin in the woods, brought to life with tons of terrifying visuals and all-new dialogue from Bruce Campbell. Discover more than 25 weapons, including Ash’s Gauntlet, Boomstick, and chainsaw, and advance in a variety of skill trees to grow stronger and survive in this fun co-op and PvP experience.

The game seems to borrow a lot from other assymetrical PVP’s like Dead by Daylight or Friday the 13th, albeit with a more action-oriented than either, with combat being a key mechanic as opposed to a last resort. After all, Ash evolved into quite the badass over the course of the franchise, easily able to wipe the floor with armies of deadites, so it fits the franchise so far.

No word as of yet over whether the 2013 reboot will be included. The film definitely has its fans for returning to the horror roots of the original, but drew criticism for its deviations from the source material, with the unwitting heroes being sacrificed to bring on the apocalypse. Only four playable characters have been announced so far, including Ash, but it’s not out of the question that a healthy playerbase could see some characters from the film – or Ash vs. the Evil Dead – make an appearance.
