Genshin Impact Catching up on the Mobile Competition
According to mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, Genshin Impact is already making a wave in the mobile gaming market as it has already accumulated nearly $400 million on mobile alone. Sensor Tower’s recent report shows that developer miHoYo has made around $393 million in revenue from Genshin Impact mobile since launching in late September. Genshin Impact is free to play right now for PS4, Nintendo Switch, mobile, and PC.
Sensor Tower analytics only report how much revenue Genshin Impact has accumulated on mobile, showing what a powerhouse of a free to play game it is. According to Sensor Tower, Genshin Impact mobile has made a combined average of over $6 million a day on iOS and Android since its release. According to their rankings, this pushed Genshin Impact above both PUBG Mobile and Pokémon Go, showing quite an impressive debut. If Genshin Impact is able to sustain this momentum, it could be one of the biggest mobile games of all time.
Genshin Impact generates revenue through microtransactions that include bypassing waiting mechanics in order to continue your adventure rather than put the game down for a set amount of time. These mechanics are nothing new to the mobile market, but it looks like the systems miHoYo has in place are perfect for generating revenue. It’ll be interesting to see how much of this revenue is pumped back into Genshin Impact to keep it evolving and growing after the title really blew up in popularity straight out the gate.
