Cyberpunk 2077 Is Already Profitable

CD Projekt RED Confirmed Cyberpunk 2077’s Success

CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 has already made a profit. The pre-orders alone apparently covered the costs of development and marketing for the game, suggesting a plethora of gamers knew they wanted the game ahead of release. Over eight million gamers pre-ordered CDPR’s latest title, with 74% of purchases being digital. Cyberpunk 2077 is available right now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Google Stadia, and PC.

“The estimated licensing royalties receivable by the Company in association with pre-order sales of Cyberpunk 2077 across all of its digital distribution channels have exceeded the sum of… total development expenditures related to the game, and the game’s marketing and promotional costs borne by the Company, either already incurred or anticipated for the remainder of 2020,” said a recent statement from CD Projekt RED. “The Management Board has decided to disclose the above information in the form of a current report due to its potential impact on investment-related decisions.”

Considering Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development for several years, it’s no surprise that so many people had it pre-ordered, but it is impressive to see it already making profit within a week of release. With the multiplayer mode still in development, it’ll be interesting to see how many gamers buy Cyberpunk 2077 as it continues to evolve. While it launched with many issues on current-gen consoles, and several rights groups decided to boycott it, it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 remains successful.
