EA Play Has Over 6.5 Million Subscribers, EA Wants More
Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson recently said on a quarterly financial earnings call that EA Play is a key focus of the publisher moving forward. The subscription service has reached more than 6.5 million people since coming to PS4 and Steam, and Wilson wants to double that subscriber base within a year. Doubling the EA Play subscriber count will be made possible with the addition of EA Play to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate lineup. Xbox Game Pass ultimate will include EA play on November 10th at no additional cost to the $15 per month service.
“Our EA Play service is the most successful multiplatform subscription in the industry. With the addition of our subscription on PS4 and Steam, we’ve reached more than 6.5 million paid subscribers,” said Andrew Wilson. “EA Play is now set to go live on Microsoft Game Pass in a few days, and we believe that we have the opportunity to double our subscriber base over the next 12 months.” Considering around 15 million gamers are currently subscribed to Xbox Game Pass, it’s likely that Andrew Wilson’s goals will be exceeded and investors that aren’t Xbox savvy will be pleasantly surprised.
“This is actually entitlement to the EA Play subscription, and as a result of that relationship that we have with those players who make those subscriptions, that will be the same as if we sold it outside the platform,” said Andrew Wilson. “So you’ll continue to see us think about our subscription broadly across platforms, and making it available to any player, wherever they want, in any way they need, with as little friction as possible.”
