Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 Trailer Drops Today

And It’s Bringing Some New Tricks Along For the Ride

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is a direct sequel to the first game, which made waves for combining the block-dropping action of Tetris with the colour matching gameplay of Puyo Puyo. The new sequel takes everything that worked in the first game and adds its own spin, bringing some interesting new gameplay elements to keep the game from getting stale.

The first of these new elements is the RPG-style Skill Battle mode, where you’ll need to pick three characters in either Puyo Puyo or Tetris games. Each character comes with their own unique skills, which adds a strategic edge to the gameplay. Picking characters with complementary skills is crucial to ensure that you’re prepared for any eventuality – whether that’s recharging HP, changing the colour of Puyo Puyo, or erasing troublesome lines in Tetris to give yourself some much needed breathing room.

You’ll also be able to improve your teams stats with item cards, and picking up the launch edition of the game means you also get access to some exclusive items, including three cards inspired by the legendary Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

Apart from using items, you can also level up your characters in Adventure mode, traversing the overworld and challenging your enemies to skill battles to level up your team.

The new game also improves on the original Puyo Puyo Tetris’s online experience. Not only will you be able to challenge your opponents in Tetris, Puyo Puyo, or both, you’ll also be able to test your teams against each other in Skill Battles. The game also offers a variety of other game modes such as Sprint, Marathon, Tiny Puyo, and Endless Fever, and there’s also a slew of post-launch content planned like new characters and features, so don’t worry – there’ll be plenty to keep your interest.

Digital pre-orders are open today for PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. More info on other platforms will be released at a later date, and preorders for physical copies are open on all available consoles.
