Get Ready to Make a Choice
The second game in The Dark Pictures Anthology, Little Hope, follows in the footsteps of both Man of Medan and Supermassive Games’ earlier title Until Dawn which, despite sharing all the hallmarks of the franchise, isn’t included in the series.
Like both of the previous games, Little Hope is an interactive horror movie, letting you make decisions that will result in the cast living or dying in numerous gruesome ways. This time, the game follows a group of college students and their professor who get stranded in the eponymous Little Hope- a town with a dark history of witch hunts that comes back to haunt them in the most literal sense- after exploring the town they witness the execution of some settlers from the past who bear a striking resemblance to themselves. To survive they have to uncover their connection to the town and discover the root of the curse.

Apart from that, we know relatively little about the story or characters, but given that Until Dawn was advertised as a slasher before taking an overtly supernatural turn, and Man of Medan was presented as a ghost story before taking a turn to the mundane, expect a twist down the line. After all, one of the possible explanations for the Salem witch trials include mass-hallucinations caused by ergotism, and the witch trials in the game and the Salem witch trials both occurred in 1692. Coincidence? Don’t count it out- although since Man of Medan took a similar turn with Manchurian Gold, they may not reuse the concept.
The interactive trailer which dropped today lets you play through a short sequence, making decisions by deciding which video to watch next, and features our heroes beset by a drowned figure wrapped in chains. Like the game itself, the outcome of the trailer is determined by your decisions, so it’s worth trying different options to try and save everyone, or kill someone.
Little Hope drops in October for PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.
