PS5 Pre-Order Registration is Open

Game On

We may not have a release date or a price yet, but if you’re eager to get your hands on Sony’s newest console, you can officially register for pre-orders on Sony’s new PS5 Sign-up page.

Unfortunately, given the limitations on manufacturing caused by the ongoing epidemic, there are some restrictions in place. For every PSN account you can order:

  • 1 PS5 Console or 1 PS5 Digital Edition
  • 2 DualSense wireless controllers
  • 2 DualSense charging stations
  • 2 Pulse 3D wireless headsets
  • 2 Media remotes
  • 2 HD Cameras

This will go a long way to address any shortage caused by resellers, as the preorder itself will be linked to your PSN account, and the pre-orders being on a first come first serve basis means that getting your name into the pool early will help to ensure that you get the console in your hands as soon as possible- although unfortunately it isn’t a guarantee that you will be selected for a Pre-order- it just lets you register your interest in the upcoming console. There’s also a marked preference towards existing customers, as you need to input your PSN ID to be entered into the pool.

As of yet there’s no news about how physical retailers will be handling pre-orders, especially given the high demand for the new console and the obvious issues with manufacturing. Let’s hope that they do limit the number of consoles people can buy at once to prevent resellers from buying multiple and taking advantage of the scarcity to turn a profit.

In other PlayStation news, a new patent has been uncovered which would take haptic feedback to the next step, analyzing how each registered user on a specific console holds the controller to automatically sign them into the system. As with all patent news this doesn’t necessarily mean that the feature will be implemented for the upcoming console, only that Sony have registered the idea.

Will you be pre-ordering a PS5, or are you going to take your chances? Let us know down in the comments.
