Phil Spencer Claims Next-Gen Xbox Games May Be Delayed
During a recent interview, executive vice-president of Gaming at Microsoft Phil Spencer, the Xbox Series X will be releasing when expected but games for the next-gen console may receive delays. While we know that Halo Infinite is on track to release during holiday 2020, apparently gamers can expect delays for other games landing on the platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Developers are all facing their own challenges right now, most of whom are working from home, but the Xbox Series X will be ready for the 2020 release. Xbox Game Pass will likely play a prominent role on the Xbox Series X, continuing the legacy set by the Xbox One and PC through Game Pass Ultimate.
“Overall, I think we’re in line with where we thought we would be,” said Phil Spencer. “I’d say the bigger unknown is probably the game production. Game production is a large scale entertainment activity now, you have hundreds of people coming together, building assets, working through creative.” Xbox Game Studios won’t be rushing unfinished products out the door, with Spencer adding that they won’t “push when things just aren’t ready.”
While Microsoft is confident in the release of the Xbox Series X this year, we hope to not see too many delays on games that are releasing for the platform. The official Xbox Twitter account recently announced an upcoming Inside Xbox that will focus on games that are coming to the Series X, which is where gamers will get a better idea of what to expect for the consoles launch. The World Health Organization has flip flopped on whether or not gaming addiction is a disorder but they have confirmed that playing games through the pandemic is a great way to pass the time.
