Fashion Designers Show off Clothing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I Wrote the Nook on Fashion

Every gamer knew that Animal Crossing: New Horizons was going to be big, but nobody knew just how important it would become. It is more than just a new game; more than just a way to pass the time during this pandemic. It has become a way for groups beyond gamers to interact and connect with others during these trying times. Recently, congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez started using it to connect with people, and now we have fashion designers making clothes and showing them off in the game.

Anyone who has played the game is aware of the player design features. Everything from clothing to wallpaper to carpets can be designed with pixel art, even some NSFW stuff. High profile fashion designers have begun creating clothes in-game, showing them on their social media accounts, and sharing download codes for anyone who wants to wear their threads. Designers like Sandy Liang, Marc Jacobs, and Maison Valentino have created digital versions of their outfits for fans to wear. If you can’t wear them in real life, you can settle for digital copies.

Of course, fashion has always been part of gaming. In games where players can customize their looks, armour, and clothing, we have always chosen fashion over function at one time or another. It’s nice that people have finally paid attention to fashion within a video game’s engine, but it sucks that it took these circumstances. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
