Sega and Demiurge Part Ways, Cancelling Two Games

Two Popular Mobile Titles Cancelled After Sega and Demiurge Split

According to a recent statement from mobile developer Demiurge Studios, the team has rejoined their original owner. The studio was working with Sega on Sega Heroes and Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire, two popular mobile titles that will be shut down now due to legal reasons. Demiurge has also been working on Marvel Puzzle Quest and there’s no word on whether or not that title will be shut down as well, but it’s likely it will be. It was recently announced that Sega’s popular Yakuza franchise will be ending up on Game Pass, with Zero and Kiwami being available on the service now.

“In 2015 we joined the Sega family of studios. It has been an amazing ride with Sega over the past five years, working with iconic IP to create a wonderful portfolio of free to play mobile games,” said a recent Demiurge statement. The original co-founder Albert Reed also said that, “that’s what we’re going to focus on for the next 12 to 18 months. We have a really long history of partnering with the top studios and publishers. Some other indies might look down their noses, but we’ve found it to be incredibly rewarding work. You get to work with fantastic IPs and learn from the best developers. It’s a great business.”

While Albert Reed intends to work with other companies to create collaborative titles similar to Sega Heroes but they’ll be working under their original banner from this point. Due to the corporate changes with the separation from Sega, Demiurge Studios has appointed General Manager Bart Simon as CEO. While we’re sad to see Sega Heroes and Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire shut down, we’re looking forward to seeing what the developers have brewing for release.
