The ESA is Looking Ahead to E3 2021 in June
The Entertainment Software Association has officially announced the dates for E3 2021, with their digital showcase for E3 2020 still pending. The event is being planned to take place June 15-17, 2021 and the ESA’s partners have been notified of the event dates. This years E3 was planned to take place from June 9th until June 11th but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other important partners dropping out. It’s likely that the digital showcase for E3 2020 will give us more details on next-gen hardware and games alike.
While the ESA is still planning their digital showcase for 2020, it’s refreshing to see them plan for the future even when the future is still so uncertain. The cancellation of the 2020 event has shaken up the industry but developers who usually attend are thinking of ways they can showcase their own content in some cases, while others are still looking to contribute to the E3 2020 digital showcase. Geoff Keighley and Sony were two of the industry names to drop out of E3 2020 before the pandemic but by the time Iam8bit dropped out, we knew the event was doomed to be canceled.
Much like E3 2020, The Game Developer Conference was also canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they’ll still be doing an event this summer known simply as GDC Summer. A number of studios have joined with IGN to promote their content this June as well on their digital event which is called “Summer of Gaming.” While the ESA is already planning for E3 2021, we hope to see a big showcase when they do their digital event that replaced this years event.
