Amazon’s New World Delayed Due to COVID-19

Amazon’s Ambitious MMO New World Has Been Delayed

Amazon Game Studios‘ director Scot Lane recently took to the official website for their upcoming MMORPG, New World, to announce a delay. Like many other delays caused by the current pandemic, this shift in release window is intended to ensure quality for when it releases and make sure that as many players can access it upon release as possible. Developers at Amazon Game Studio are currently working from home to fit the new release of August 25th. When it releases this summer, New World will be exclusive to PC like many other MMO’s before it.

New World

New World isn’t the first title to be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with The Last of Us Part II being delayed indefinitely for now and Minecraft Dungeons being delayed until May. Like most of you, our entire team has been sequestered as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic. While we are still making great progress, developing an ambitious MMO like New World remotely has introduced some challenges,” said Scot Lane. We want to make sure that we have the time needed to make New World the very best it can be for our players.”

While the full game is releasing in August, New World’s closed beta phase has been pushed to July to match the release. “The health and safety of our team is our first priority. We hope you understand our decision to protect our team during these uncertain times while we re-focus on a timeline that will ensure New World is the best possible game it can be. We would like to thank our Alpha players for helping us make a better game,” Scot Lanes statement continued. “The Alpha will remain open as we continue to test and tune our player experience. Between now and our launch on August 25, we will continue to share details on features and content going into the game.”
