Bungie is Done With Randomized Loot Boxes
Director Luke Smith recently unveiled during a blog post that Bright Engrams didn’t live up to Bungie’s expectations and they’ll be removed as in-game purchases. They won’t be removed completely from the game, but they’re simply being added to the free track of Destiny 2’s Battle Pass. Bungie wants their gamers to know what they’re getting for the cost before they spend their money, similar to the Fortnite model. Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Google Stadia now, with season 10 breathing new life into the looter shooter on March 10th.
“For Season 10, we’re doing away with Bright Engrams as purchasable items. We want players to know what something costs before they buy it,” said Luke Smith. “Bright Engrams don’t live up to that principle so we will no longer be selling them on the Eververse Store, though they will still appear on the Free Track of the Season Pass.” Apparently, every five levels after level 100 in the Battle Pass will reward gamers with Bright Engrams, leaving only two ways to acquire the randomized loot box now.
The upcoming Season of the Worthy will finally put an end to buying Bright Engrams on the Eververse Store. “It’s about the potential of a game to be more than something that just fills your time. It’s about having goals and working toward something that matters to you. I’m not so naive as to think we can make something that matters to everyone,” said Luke Smith. “We all have different values, goals and time. But I do think Destiny 2 can do a better job of enabling players to set short, medium and long-term goals to work toward.”
