Google Says Publishers Are Responsible for Stadia Game Announcements
The Google Stadia Reddit community has voiced their displeasure for having to wait 40 days since the last community update, feature update, new game announcement or update in general from Google. Although the community manager for Google on Reddit GraceFromGoogle claimed the company understood where the fans were coming from, a recent interview suggests that they don’t. By deflecting the blame for a lack of updates to gaming publishers, Google has displayed a lack of understanding. Google Stadia is available now, with many games offered through the Stadia Pro subscription service which costs $9.99 per month.
“We understand the desire to hear more specifics on the games. After all, that is what it is about: the games. Of course, not all 120 titles will be announced by the Stadia team, as we leave it up to the publishers to make the announcement about their IP/games, and which platforms it will appear on, just as we will do with the exclusive content coming to Stadia,” said a Stadia representative during a recent interview. “There are a lot of reasons for the time of those game announcements, anything from planned promotions or events, title readiness, proximity to first playable demo, shareholder requirements, etc.”
The representative continued to explain that “we continue to work closely with our publishing and developing partners and are here to support them in all areas. We are excited to share more about some of the exclusive games coming to Stadia soon.” With all of the various reasons to make game announcements, it’s interesting that Google would wait forty days to announce anything during any stretch of time, especially considering the recent launch of the game streaming service.
