The Witcher Netflix Adaptation Is Full of What the Author Felt Was Most Important

The Author Had a Lot of Input for The Witcher Netflix Adaptation

There’s no shortage of information about the upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Witcher with its first season getting closer and closer by the moment. Recently we learned the episode titles, and that the show had already been renewed for a second season. Despite all the hype surrounding it, we haven’t heard a whole lot about whether the book series’ author has had a lot of say in the show. As it turns out, he has discussed what’s most important with those on the production team.

Showrunner Lauren Hissirch recently, at a panel in Lucca, Italy, shared that she’s had conversations with The Witcher author Andrzej Sapowski about what was most important to him about bringing his epic adventure to Netflix. Hissrich stated, “Sapkowski told me what was important to him: to tell the story of three orphans looking for a place in the world, touching on topics such as sexism, xenophobia, racism, society’s difficulty in accepting what is different. Much of the original content from the books remains, full of spectacular fights, incredible adventures and monstrous creatures.”

If you’re no familiar with The Witcher series, these three orphans that were mentioned are Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill, Princess Ciri, played by Freya Allen, and Yennefer of Vengerberg, played by Anya Chalotra. Without going into too much detail, in both the books and the video games Ciri finds herself in the care of Geralt, a magically and genetically altered monster hunter, also know as the Witcher. He attempts to protect Ciri, along with Yennefer, from her enemies. Of course, it’s understandable to see why The Witcher would be something Netflix is so interested in. Here’s the synopsis, straight from Netflix, “Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster-hunter for hire, journeys toward his destiny in a turbulent world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.”

The entire first season of The Witcher is set to release on Netflix on December 20th. Are you excited for it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to keep it locked for updates!
