Hideo is a Very Popular Guy
Despite what you might think of Hideo Kojima’s games, there is no denying that he is a very popular person within the industry. As a matter of fact, he is the most popular game director on social media too. Hideo has recently just broken the Guinness World Record for the most followed game director on Twitter and Instagram.
While this might not be a big deal to most, it does go to show how big video games have gotten. Kojima has managed to amass more than 2 million followers on Twitter and 800,000 on Instagram. While this does pale in comparison to many other celebrities and famous individuals, it should not be overlooked that a video game director has morphed into a celebrity that is felt outside of gaming.
Kojima is somewhat of a polarizing figure, especially after the reviews for Death Stranding have come out. Death stranding is a game that has been hailed as a masterpiece by some and a glorified walking simulator by others. His games are definitely not for everyone. But those who do like his work, do so with a passion that is not usually seen within games. He has managed to build up a very strong, cult-like following over his years. Not that is a bad thing.
He routinely brushes shoulders with well known and established actors and movie stars for his games. Something that will only further his influence. It has even been teased that he will be working with the internet sweetheart Keanu Reeves.
Only time will tell what Hideo Kojima has in store for the gaming world. There is no news of what else he has planned in the future. We will just have to wait and see what the Japanese superstar has up his sleeve.
