Forever Entertainment is Returning the House of the Dead to Life
Developer Forever Entertainment and Sega are bringing back The House of the Dead 1 & 2 with upcoming remakes. These remakes are based on the popular arcade light gun shooter The House of the Dead and its sequel which brings white knuckle action to cringe voice acting and questionable dialogue. The remakes have no expected release date but it’s nice the original titular game will be getting a remake as the sequel already has on the Wii with the third title.
The original The House of the Dead released in 1996 and it hasn’t been remade at all and was only ported to PC and Sega Saturn in 1998 which were both very weak experiences compared to the arcade version of the game. The Wii brought life back into The House of the Dead 2 & 3 and we hope that these remakes remind gamers why light gun shooters are fun. We’re really looking forward to the familiar voice acting, especially the infamous and repeating “Reload!”
Sega and Polish developer Forever Entertainment haven’t specified a console or release date for these remakes yet but it’s likely any possible Switch version will use motion and gyro in a more superior experience than the Wii port of 2 & 3. We hope that if these remakes come out on PS5 and Xbox One that they come with light guns that look similar to the original blue guns chained to the arcade machine.
Because the port of 2 & 3 didn’t really improve the graphical fidelity of The House of the Dead, we’re hoping that this remake of 1 & 2 will address the significantly aged graphics. There’s something not so scary about a blocky zombie charging at gamers compared to a properly high definition one dripping with blood and ooze. Sega’s art design for The House of the Dead in the 90’s but the visuals definitely need an upgrade now.
What are some of your favorite light gun shooters that you hope get modernized in some way? Which of The House of The Dead Games is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below!
