Nintendo Online Not Included
Nintendo is always fine-tuning the quality of its games and hardware. However, their online infrastructure is akin to a 90s GameBoy. Basic functions, like voice chat, are divorced from the console experience and relegated to a simple app. Fortunately, however, a newly introduced Nintendo Switch controller offers a step in the right direction.
The Faceoff Deluxe+ Audio Wired Controller, from PDP, mimics the design of the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. It’s a new piece of hardware that circumvents any need for the Nintendo Switch Online app. It offers the rudimentary functions of the Xbox One and DualShock 4 controllers, and it’s red.
Our new favorite controller utilizes technology from Vivox, the company that integrated Fortnite chat on the Nintendo Switch. Vivox dropped a flare of goodwill when they opened up their software development kit to third-parties. As of earlier this year, more developers have had access to the features that make voice chat in Nintendo games readily available. PDP’s new hardware may be the first in a series of products built to compensate for Nintendo’s online infrastructure.
Pre-orders for the Faceoff Deluxe+ Audio Wired Controller will begin in May. Aside from the essential chat option, the device includes a 3.5mm jack, two additional programmable buttons, extra faceplates, and a few more interesting widgets. Since it offers more features than any current Nintendo Switch controller, chances are we’ll see a deluxe price point. Stay tuned for relevant updates.
