Happy Tenth Birthday to All You Psychos
The first Borderlands game came out way back when in October 2009. This year will be the tenth anniversary of its release. Probably not coincidentally, the ESRB has just rated Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. With developer Gearbox’s panel at PAX East just a week away, all signs point to Borderlands announcements. Will we get announcements of Borderlands: GotY and/or Borderlands 3? I would say it is extremely likely we hear about at least one, if not both of them.
A few years back, the Xbox One and PS4 got Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. It is a two-game bundle of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, both of which feature the character Handsome Jack. Even though it was aptly named The Handsome Collection, it was odd Gearbox would not bundle the original Borderlands with it. I’m sure other Borderlands fans would agree, the first game would have been a welcome addition. Perhaps Gearbox was playing the long game of waiting until the tenth anniversary for a re-release. Borderlands: GotY was spotted a couple of times before now, with Taiwan rating it in January and South Korea in the summer.
As with pretty much all GotY editions of different games, the Borderlands release comes with all the accompanying DLC packs. It was released on Xbox 360 first, so there should be no major difference when it comes to the current gen consoles. No release date has been announced, but that is sure to be addressed next week at PAX East.
