Does Art Imitate Life or does Life Imitate Art?
With Mortal Kombat 11 launching in about two months, developer NetherRealm and everyone with a hand in the game has been doing wonders to promote the game. Characters are pretty consistently being added to the roster of fighters. Last month, WWE champion Ronda Rousey was confirmed to be playing Sonya Blade. A couple of weeks ago, rumors began circulating that another WWE champion John Cena may be playing Stryker (which has still yet to be confirmed or denied). Last night, Rousey took to the ring cosplaying as her own Mortal Kombat 11 character Sonya Blade.
We love it when a two-way exchange like this between video games and real life happens. Ronda Rousey lends her voice to Sonya Blade, and Sonya Blade lends her looks to Ronda Rousey. [chef kissing fingers emoji] So as you can see, Rousey donned a new outfit to wrestle in last night to defend her belt. She faced off against Ruby Riott. The image above makes her look like she’s about to snap her opponent in half à  la Fatality. The official WWE Twitter account tweeted another image of Ronda Rousey entering the arena.
So, was this a move suggested by NetherRealm or was it an independent choice by Ronda Rousey and WWE? In my own opinion, it is likely that someone at NetherRealm called Rousey up and asked if she would be interested in doing this. Obviously, since she was excited enough to voice the character in the first place, she was up for it. I assume there’s a costume department in WWE, so the talent doesn’t have to make those wrestling singlets themselves. They were probably contacted as well to make it all happen. But who knows? Not me, that’s for sure.
