Will there be Girl? Does she need Boyfriend?
CD Projekt Red has been very open with their fans about their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. The only thing they have not been open about is the release date, but let them take their time, just make it good. Still, as busy as they may be, they always make time to answer the questions from their fans. Last week, amid the controversies surrounding Metro Exodus’s exclusivity to the Epic Games Store, fans asked about how Cyberpunk 2077 will be distributed. Last month, the developer commented on the game’s verticality. Now, the question of gender representation is coming up from fans. Will we see Cyberpunk 2077 female companions?
Short answer: Yes. It was actually a little more than week ago that a fan tweeted to CD Projekt Red asking about female companions. Soon after, CDPR gave their answer. The fan asked if the character in the first gameplay footage Jackie, who is a male, would be a female if they chose a male protagonist. Now, overlooking this guy’s desire for male/female partnerships, it does beg the question: what kind of companions will we be seeing. Well, as CDPR’s response read, Jackie will not magically or medically become a woman.
CD Projekt Red’s answer also mentioned that there will be multiple companions, men and women. Hopefully, there will also be some in-between, some neither, everyone is welcome. There’s still no release date, so maybe they can work some more representation into the game. Fifty-eight years from now there’s bound to be more genders being normalized, so consider it an act of authenticity and accuracy.
