Battle Royale is the New Horde Mode. Every Game Needs One Apparently
Will the sun ever set on the Battle Royale genre? It will if we over-saturate the landscape with more and more of these games. That being said, a rumor is gaining steam that we will be seeing a Titanfall Battle Royale game soon. This comes from a leak out of the Titanfall developer Respawn, according to TheQuartering. About a month and a half ago, Respawn posted job listings for Star Wars and Titanfall games. At the time, we were not sure if the Titanfall game would be a third major installment or a spin-off. Now, it looks like those games will be Jedi Fallen Order and this alleged Titanfall Battle Royale game.
Apparently, the new Titanfall game will be going the free-to-play route, with microtransactions for titan and player skins. The leak also suggested that, like PUBG and Fortnite, this BR game will have squad elements. Fortnite altered the BR genre with the building mechanics, Titanfall is obviously known for the giant mechs. If the rumor is true, will that give Battle Royale fans a big enough reason to hop on board the Titanfall train again?
If we are to assume that a Titanfall BR game is on its way, will it play like a Titanfall game? Respawn did develop a mobile Titanfall game which departed from the usual first-person shooter MO. Will it stick to being a first-person shooter or will it try something else? And if it is free-to-play, what is Respawn’s long-term plan to make this profitable? This leak has obviously not been officially confirmed, so all this speculation may all be for naught. Take it with a grain of salt.
