Anthem: New Gameplay Footage Shows All Javelin Abilities

It’s a Storm of Bullet and Blades

Anthem is a game of sci-fi exploration, exosuits, and playing with your buddies. That wasn’t enough, however, so BioWare decided to allure us with some extra fun game mechanics. The Edmonton-based developer recently claimed that their new game will focus more on action than their previous titles. Unsurprisingly, this has eliminated romance options from the game, but the tradeoff seems rather radical.

Previously stated, Anthem allows players to experience the game in exosuits called Javelins. No player is limited to one Javelin and no Javelin is limited to one ability. Each one comes with a variety of weapons, and a specialty that can turn the tide of battle. EA’s latest piece of gameplay showcases each suit’s capabilities, and they hold nothing back. Here’s a closer look at the Colossus, Interceptor, Ranger, and Storm, courtesy of IGN.

Every Anthem Javelin attacks and maneuvers differently. As the video demonstrates, some suits move faster, slower, or somewhere in the middle. A class like the Interceptor relies on speed, while the colossus moves slowly with a hard-hitting strike in his fist and shield. Even projectiles will vary per class, such as the Ranger’s rain of missiles or the Storm’s onslaught of thunder attacks. By now, you’ll have noticed that each suit facilitates a unique playstyle.

Javelin Ultimate Abilities

Ranger – Multi-Target Missile Battery

Dealing precise damage across a wide swath of the battlefield, the Ranger’s Multi-target Missile Battery allows it to target many fast-moving enemies with guided projectiles. As the master of versatility in combat, the Ranger’s ultimate allows for a flexible approach that can quickly eliminate an overwhelming number of enemies.

Colossus – Siege Cannon

The Siege Cannon is pure mayhem unleashed on the battlefield. This ability allows for multiple shots which each create large explosions, which makes it ideal for clearing out smaller enemies, controlling enemies in a choke point, or putting some extra damage on a boss.

Storm – Elemental Storm

The Storm calls down a torrent of energy to decimate a targeted area. Manipulating the raw force of the Anthem, the Storm emits successive blasts of frost, electricity, and fire – ending with a meteoric finale. This ability is great when enemies are in a contained area where they’ll all be struck.

Interceptor – Assassin’s Blades

The Interceptor becomes supercharged, arming its Assassin’s Blades and carving through enemies at high speed. Each target hit by one of these melee attacks will be hit continuously by echoes of the original attack over a 10-second duration. This is a highly precise attack that lets the Interceptor choose his targets carefully and single them out for huge damage.

Anthem arrives for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on February 22nd, 2018. Which Javelin will you be sporting? Will you take advantage of the free story content? Let us know in the comments below.
