Evangelical Group Makes Saint Collecting Pokemon GO Clone

Look Out, Red Dead Redemption 2

A Catholic evangelical group from Florida has created a Pokemon GO clone that places Saints and other biblical characters in place of pocket monsters.

“Follow JC Go!” was developed by the Fundación Ramón Pané for this January’s Catholic youth event World Youth Day 2019 in Panama. The goal is to collect religious Saints and well known characters from the Bible by finding them and answering a related question. Players will need to keep their “hydration, nutrition and prayer” meters in check to keep their character “healthy,” and can acquire in-game currency by donating to charities through the app.

Jesus Christ GO

Follow JC Go! is currently available on iOS and Android – currently only in Spanish, but other languages are on the way.

This is a most interesting turn of events – in the late 90’s during the height of Pokemania, it was common to see Christian groups openly denouncing Pokemon for having occult themes and including evolution as a central mechanic, even despite Sat2000, a Roman-Catholic TV station based in Vatican City claiming that the game was “full of inventive imagination” and had no “harmful moral side effects.” Additionally, in 1999, a theology student named David Tate made a Pokemon Trading Card Game clone with Biblical characters called “Christian Power Cards.”

In other recent Pokemon GO news, the game’s Halloween event just kicked off yesterday, and managed to make a solid $85 Million in revenue this past September. Let us know what you think in the comments and keep it locked to COGconnected for all the latest gaming news!
