Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Gets Halloween Event

Halloween Comes to The Alola Region

It looks like the main Pokemon series is finally jumping on the seasonal event bandwagon with an online competition called the “Ultra Spooky Cup.”

The event kicks off on Friday, October 26th and wraps up the following Sunday, October 28th. Players will need to complete “at least three battles to qualify”, and will receive a shiny Mimikyu upon doing so. Those who want to participate will also require a Pokemon Trainer Club membership and a Game Sync ID registered in the Pokemon Global Link. Sounds easy!

One particularly bizarre part of the post says: “This competition will feature plenty of haunting Ghost types (like Palossand), Pokemon with a sinister visage, and even Pokemon like Pikachu and Eevee that are known to wear costumes for special occasions.” First of all, I’ve played Sun, Moon, and their Ultra counterparts, and I still had to look up who Palossand was, and I’m pretty confident there are a handful of better examples they could have used, which could also be said for the “sinister visage” example. Maybe I’m just being curmudgeonly, maybe I don’t know anyone personally who can name any Pokemon past Gen IV, who knows?

In other recent Pokemon news, Nintendo explained how transfers will work between the mobile Pokemon GO and the upcoming Let’s Go games for the Nintendo Switch, and how the new titles will handle motion controls.
