Pete Hines: “Absolutely We’re Making a Wolfenstein III”

Machine Games Currently Focused on ‘Young Blood’

Back when Wolfenstein II launched on multiple platforms, it performed respectably on the charts. Additionally, it launched to positive reviews and even received The Game Award for “Best Action Game.” So what does that say about the development of Wolfenstein III? We don’t have to guess since Bethesda VP of Marketing Pete Hines answered the question for us.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus ins 1

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Hines surrendered the brief roadmap for Machine Games. Back at E3 2018, the developer teased their spin-off installment, Wolfenstein: Young Blood, a co-op adventure staring BJ Blazcowikcz’s two daughters. While more Wolfenstein is always good, fans are eager to know if the trilogy will conclude properly. Thus, when asked if the second installment did well financially, Hines replied, “Yeah, it did well!” How well? Well, it did well enough that the VP confirmed there will be a third mainline game.

“Yeah, sure. Absolutely we’re making a Wolfenstein III,” he said. “They said on stage [at E3 2018] that they’re taking a break from the larger story to do this thing. But we all have to see how that ends. [laughs]”

Hines went on to discuss other Bethesda studios, commenting on Arkane’s announced hiatus from the Dishonored series: “The fact that they’re waiting to do that has nothing to do with the relative success or failure it has to do with, ‘We wanna do this and then we wanna try this other thing because we’ve never done this. And we want to try a new IP because we haven’t done one in… decades’. So what Ricardo [Bare – Dishonored designer] was talking about was more of that. Which is we don’t just want to have a studio that only makes Dishonored games and isn’t allowed to try other things.”

Basically, Bethesda allows each studio the creative liberty to pursue other projects at the cost of shelving others. That never means we won’t see them again, but what are your thoughts? Previously Machine Games laid low plans to change up the formula of their games. That said, are you excited by the prospect of a Wolfenstein III? Let us know in the comments down below.
