73GB Master Chief Collection Update Rolls Out Today

Master Chief is Back! Again!

In preparation of the game’s addition to Xbox Game Pass, 343 Industries is releasing a long-awaited update for the Master Chief Collection featuring a bevy of new features and improvements.

Halo Master Chief Collection

The update weighs in at a whopping 73GB – which makes sense considering the star of the update is 4K and HDR visual upgrades to all 5 Halo games present in the compilation. Each game will also run at 60fps now, and HDR and SDR settings have been added to allow players to fine tune the visuals to look best on their setup.

The new update also includes improved matchmaking – the main offender of the game’s issues at launch. Matchmaking playlists have been divided into “per-game offerings” allowing players to stick with their favorite gametype for however long they’d like, and 343 has been kind enough to implement continuous matchmaking, meaning that once a match ends, the game will begin finding another one.

Those are the main big points, but you can check out the rest of the patch notes here.

The Master Chief Collection comes to Game Pass this Saturday September 1st on Xbox One. There’s a helluva lot of Halo in the works right now with Halo: Infinite announced at this past E3, and 343 recently went out of their way to confirm that it is indeed Halo 6, the next main entry in the franchise. There’s also a Halo TV series in the works with Showtime, a serious amount of Halo content coming to Forza Horizon 4, and an arcade cabinet called Fireteam: Raven came out earlier this year.
