Devil May Cry Gamescom Showing Deserves SSS Ranking
During today’s Gamescom special of Inside Xbox, Capcom revealed a brand new gameplay trailer for Devil May Cry 5 featuring Nero and Dante kicking serious demon ass and an official release date.
Devil May Cry 5 will come to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on March 3rd, 2019. Hilariously, the trailer began without sound as audio was still routed to everyone’s microphones, and the release date was mentioned before the trailer got the chance to reveal it. Following the trailer reveal the Inside Xbox team spoke with Capcom producer Matt Walker and Director Hideaki Itsuno, who were happy to give a ton of details regarding the game’s Devilbreaker mechanic and the demo currently playable at Gamescom.
Walker states that there will be 8 different standard Devilbreakers for Nero to wreck demons with and that they can literally break if you take damage while using them, by performing a super move, or can be sacrificed for an emergency evade.
The Gamescom demo sees Nero pitted against a demon called the Goliath, who Matt Walker says is based on Capcom Europe’s brand manager. Nero shows off the game’s destructible environments by throwing the Goliath into a bell tower that collapses on top of him, and later on, the ground underneath them is destroyed, dropping them both into an enormous cathedral to finish the fight.
When asked about the story, Walker simply stated that it’s “About Dante and Nero, the descendants of Sparta, taking on demons.” Which, I mean….yeah. He’s not wrong. At the end of the discussion, Walker mentioned that more information would be coming at next month’s Tokyo Game Show, specifically focused on Dante, who is seen being a total badass in the aforementioned demo.
Devil May Cry 5 was officially announced at E3 this past June during the Microsoft conference, so it makes sense that we’re seeing more big info unveiled during their Gamescom special. Capcom’s taken every opportunity possible to talk about DMC5, recently opening up about how fans influenced the new installment, what the team has learned from DmC, as well as technical details on how the game will perform.
