‘Vampyr’ Update Will Add Two New Difficulties

The Action-RPG Could Become Even More Challenging

Vampyr is going to get two new difficulty modes in an update later this summer, announced the game’s publisher, Focus Home Interactive, on Friday. The upcoming modes aim to “add further replayability for existing players and more options for those who haven’t yet sunk their teeth into this dark adventure.”

The two difficulty modes are titled “Story” mode and “Hard” mode. “The Story mode places a greater focus on narrative, allowing players to experience Dr. Reid’s journey with less challenging combat,” the publisher’s official announcement read. “On the other end of the scale, Hard mode makes combat much more difficult. Players will receive less experience from killing enemies too, forcing them to rely even more on embracing citizens to grow in power.”

If the info posted about Hard mode sounds confusing then allow us to explain: the game’s protagonist, Dr. Jonathan Reid, needs blood in order to upgrade his vampiric abilities. One of the best ways to do that is to feed on the citizens of London but if the player kills too many citizens in a district then that district will go into disarray and collapse. This mechanic turns the entire game into a moral choice about who gets killed by the player and who gets spared and a hard difficulty could push players even further to make these tough decisions.

The announcement post also mentioned that Vampyr is currently 25% off on Steam.

Vampyr is out now for the PC, PS4 & Xbox One.
