The PUBG Corporation Was Suing Epic Games For Copyright Infringement
The developer behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) has dropped their lawsuit against Fortnite developer Epic Games, according to a report from Bloomberg.
PUBG Corporation, the developers of PUBG, have currently provided no explanation as to why they’ve dropped the lawsuit and apparently sent “a letter of withdrawal” to the attorneys of Epic Games on Monday. It is also currently unknown whether or not a settlement has been reached between the two sides.
The lawsuit was filed back in January but its existence came to light last month. The PUBG developer accused Epic Games of copyright infringement by alleging that Fortnite was copying PUBG. The lawsuit itself became a source of derision, criticism and mockery for PUBG Corporation with gamers criticizing the lawsuit as unnecessary and petty.
Both games are considered rivals in the increasingly popular Battle Royale genre and their successes have led to several other mainstream developers incorporating Battle Royale modes into their games. This has lead some to wonder whether similar copyright lawsuits would be filed against other games that have Battle Royale.
