State of Decay 2 Crosses the 1-Million Player Mark in 2 Days

Xbox Unveils New Xbox Game Pass Trailer

Following the launch of State of Decay 2, the online co-op survival experience has seen 1 million players. Microsoft recorded these numbers within the first two days, which equates to an early success for the exclusive title. During that time, players out in the wasteland have logged over 6 million hours of game time.

Xbox has made strides in developing their games-as-a-service model, and State of Decay 2 provides their latest co-op loop. Back in March, we saw Sea of Thieves garner attention from millions of users, though it was met by Lukewarm reviews. Even so, developer Rare has shown no signs of letting up on content – A new expansion is slated for the end of this month, with more to come down the line.

Back to the success of State of Decay 2, the platform has updated their website with a detailed overview of activity from the past few days. According to Xbox, users have viewed 3.5 million hours of gameplay across Mixer, Twitch, and YouTube Gaming, and that’s from over 41,000 unique broadcasts. But there’s more: the overview counts a total of 675 million zombies shot, destroyed, or decapitated. There’s plenty more going on, but we’ll save those numbers for the week after launch.

Part of the charm of State of Decay 2 may stem from its accessibility on Xbox Game Pass. Like with Sea of Thieves it’s unclear just how many gamers have opted in for the service as a result of the game’s launch. But, given time, we will know the number of users who purchased boxed copies. Right now, the Standard Edition is available for $29.99 and the Ultimate Edition is available for $49.99. More and more, it seems Xbox is finding ways to build a consistent playerbase. Next, we may have Crackdown 3 to look forward to, though we haven’t seen anything of it since its delay. Stay tuned for news leading up to E3.
